queen of hearts

Tommy was my original gay BFF – we met on our first day of college. I was never the girl doing the loco-motion at all those Long Island Bat Mitzvah receptions. But in the fall of ‘94, on a road trip to see TORI (swoon), Tom pulled me out onto the warped wooden floor of a dark Green Bay dive and I started dancing with fags like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Which is why, given my current lifestyle, it was especially gratifying to gaze across the crowded dance floor at Hey Queen, from the vantage point of a go-go platform, at Tom on the opposite platform, synchronizing our moves to I Would Die 4U. (“I’m not a woman, I’m not a man, I am something that you’ll never understand…”)

It took a while to get these pictures up, but here they finally are, and I have to say I’m actually really happy with how they turned out.

that’s Tommy on the left. I gotta dig out some archival footage.
